Many of us have been physical distancing now since about the middle of March.
And with the progress that's been made in flattening the curve, most people doing their part, and following the rules, it's also taken a toll on our mental and emotional well being.
Taking care of mental health isn't something that alot of people focus on, but it's just as important as our physical health. (And in my humble opinion and experience, essential to maintain and improve our over all health)
A quick and simple way to do this, in the comfort of your own home, is to follow these five steps.
1) Set the Mood: Create a relaxing spa experience by lighting a candle, diffusing your favourite essential oils and playing calming music.
2) Begin with a Clean Canvas: Start by cleansing your skin to remove makeup, excess oils, sweat, dirt and any other unwanted debris.
3) Exfoliate: An important step for healthy skin! Exfoliation removes dead cells from the top layer of your skin. By removing this layer of clutter off of your skin, exfoliation helps brighten your complexion, and lets your skin-care products penetrate deeper into your skin (making them work better)
4) Massage and Masque: Apply a thin layer of the masque and massage it into your face (remember the neck and décolleté!) By increasing blood circulation and oxygen flow to the facial muscles and skin, the face is less likely to fall into deep wrinkles or show signs of physical and/or emotional stress. Facial massage also encourages the development of collagen, which helps keep your skin firm and supple. Leave the mask on for about 15-20 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
5) Hydrate: To finish, apply any of your usual serums, moisturizers, or sunscreen. All skin types (even oily!) and skin concerns (even acne!) can benefit from hydration and a moisturizer. If skin is constantly stripped of hydration and natural oils from toners and harsh cleansers, it will overreact by producing even more oil to try and protect the skin.
