I’m really happy to be able to say that I hardly ever get sick… And when I do, it’s just a couple of days, and then I’m back in full motion. I’m NOT so happy to say that these past few weeks really fooled me… I picked up some yucky sort of cold, flu, virus thing that really kicked my @&*! Most of us have been there. Nose running, coughing, fever, feeling terrible and wondering… “How did I pick this crap up!?
I was reading something that a Mentor of mine shared and it helped me so much that I'm sharing it with You!
One of the oldest medical texts in Traditional Chinese Medicine, known as the Nei Ching, states: “To cure an illness after it arises is like forging weapons after the battle has started, or digging a well after you have become thirsty.”
I read that after about a week of feeling terrible and thought… “Oh Great…” But is it really too late? Along with getting a Raindrop Technique at the very first sign of any yucky intruder… sore throat, cough, or runny nose…. (And for me, using Essential Oils daily helps keep me healthy and feeling great) I also want to share a “super-herb” tea recipe that may be helpful in fighting off your cold or flu. It really helped my husband with his sore throat.
The leafy hero at the heart of this tasty potion is none other than the soft and sweet herb that we call Sage. This is a sacred plant many of us burn routinely in our homes for its aromatic energy-clearing powers. I didn’t know (until just recently) that it also packs a serious punch for colds, viruses and bacterial infections. Very cool!
Salvia Officianalis, derived from the Latin word, Salvere, which means “To Be Saved”, Sage is an antibacterial, antiviral, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti… pretty much anti-anything-that-feels-crappy.
All humour aside, this is a highly medicinal herb that is effective for a host of health promoting qualities. It’s known to help with minor ailments like cold and flu, as well as major ones like cancer, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes.
I love being a plant medicine geek, and I love learning about and sharing the powers of ancient plants like these.
Here’s a super delicious Sage Tea recipe that master herbalists swear by because of its fast-acting effects: I hope you enjoy it as much as my husband and I have during our bout with the yucky cold, flu, virus (or whatever it was we had)
Sage Tea Recipe
***Important Tip: Never use aluminum utensils or containers for your tea extractions. Glass, porcelain, silver, and Pyrex are best!
Ingredients:
4 Cups of Water
12 Fresh Sage Leaves (Dry will work, but fresh is more potent!)
2 Tablespoons Honey
2 Tablespoons Fresh Lemon Juice
A pinch of Cayenne Pepper
Preparation:
- In a teapot or saucepan, bring water to a boil.
- Add the sage leaves and remove the teapot or saucepan from heat.
- Let it steep for 15 minutes.
- Stir in the remaining ingredients.
- Pour a cup full, breath in the beautiful aroma, say a healing blessing, and Enjoy!
Two to three cups of Sage Tea per day is now becoming part of my own winter sickness healing protocol in my home. (I’m enjoying a cup right now!)
Another Important Tip: ***Sage is generally viewed as being a very safe herb to experiment with, but as always, do your own research and make sure that it’s right for you.
Share the Love by sharing your own recipes that help fight the lousy things we tend to pick up (especially during the winter season) I’d love to hear your thoughts and comments.
Sending You Love and Healing Blessings, Rosemary
